For the last two weeks we’ve been joined by Ben from the Plume Academy for some work experience. We caught up with him to ask him some questions about his time with us.
Why did you decide to do your work experience at Gibbons?
I heard about you at the Plume careers fair and spoke to some of the team who gave me a run down of everything that you do. Engineering is my favourite subject at school and I really enjoy the hands-on aspect.
What have you worked on in the past two weeks?
In the first week I started working on Panels with four other engineers. In the second week I spent time in the rewinds department with Kevin, stripping out copper from the motors, insulating them and burring all of the edges. Rewinding motors isn’t something that I would ever get the opportunity to learn about at school.
Do you want to be an engineer when you’re older?
Yes, I’m thinking I’d like to be a mechanical engineer. It is a good job, and the world is never not going to need an engineer!
Has the experience been valuable?
Yes, the experience has helped to confirm that engineering is what I would like to do. I’m hoping to be able to come back for some more work experience soon!
